When you think of daiquris, do you think of a sugary concoction mixed up in the blender from a can of frozen mix? Or something with bananas or strawberries or some other fruit, also from the syrupy can of concentrate? I did too. But that doesn’t appeal to me much and I knew that kind of drink had to be based on something better. So here’s the real deal, the original daiquiri. And what better way to celebrate National Rum Day?
- Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice, 1 ounce
- White Rum, 1 1/2 ounces
- Simple Syrup, 1 ounce *
- Ice, crushed or small cubes
Juice the lime. One was just right for one cocktail.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the lime juice, rum and syrup.
Pour into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish with a lime slice and sip it slowly. Enjoy!
*Simple Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups of sugar and 2 1/2 cups of water. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat and let it boil just until the sugar is dissolved. Let it cool, pour it into a jar or bottle and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.
