Gardening, Week Five

April 18, 2011

Everything is growing nicely, including the pests that have arrived this week. They haven’t done too much damage and I’ve taken steps to get them under control, spraying a little Thuricide. I’m hesitant to use Neem Oil Extract on such tender, new growth.

Fencing plans are underway and I’d like to have it up by next weekend.

All of the tomatoes are caged and the vining plants are being trained to go in the right direction.

The dill turned a bit brown after being transplanted but it’s greening up again.

The tarragon is really taking off, along with it’s sage neighbor.

The squash and zucchini have baby buds.

Leaf miners? Whatever they are, they’ve been to work on the tomatoes but the plants are still growing nicely. As the plants grow I’ll be able to remove damaged leaves. Right now that would mean not much plant left!

Almost all of the tomatoes are now flowering. I can’t wait to see the first baby tomatoes.

All of the peppers are growing well. We’ll probably see the first blossoms this week.

And lavender! Beautiful purple flowers that smell wonderful! I might have to find a spot in the yard and plant a whole bunch more.

My tomatoes have the exact same tracks on them. Wonder what they are?

When I googled I came up with Leaf Miners. Apparently hard to eliminate but not terribly dangerous?
