Gardening, Week Four

April 11, 2011

Now that plants have been in the ground a week, it’s fun to see all the tender new leaves. Everything is doing well so far. This week’s rain was just perfect, even if the thunderstorm and wind did snap one of the tomatoes. Pests aren’t an issue. Yet. I’m sure they’re out there, just waiting. The plan for this week is a preventive application of Neem oil.

The tomatoes are already caged. It’s easier to do it before they need it instead of wrangling them in later.

One tomato already has tiny buds!

The Thai chilis are full of blossoms and already have a couple of peppers.

The dill and other herbs added this week are doing well.

The bell, serrano and jalapeno peppers are all growing quickly.

The onions are greening up nicely.

The okra is growing quickly too, along with the cucumber, cantaloupe, squash and zucchini.

The basil has already been pinched back quite a bit and it’s still turning into basil bushes.

The cilantro is destined for the table this week.

And a fence is coming sooner rather than later!

I would of never thought of cinder block for the vegetable garden. And you put plants in them how neat, can’t wait to see them when they’re matured! Kitty is cute in there.
