Name This Drink!

Ending Strawberry Week with a bang,  I made Strawberry Margaritas last weekend.  A lot of them. One at a time.  For several people.   That meant a lot of lime-juicing.  Near the end of the evening, all but a couple of  lime wedges were gone but the drinkers were I was still here.  That meant it was time to improvise.  This is what I came up when I raided the liquor cabinet.  It isn’t nearly as sweet as we thought it would be but that’ll depend on how much simple syrup you add.  It’s light, fruity and very refreshing – a perfect summertime drink to sip by the pool.

Only one problem remained – what do we call this new concoction?  Well, actually, is it even new?  Surely someone’s done something like this before.

I’d love to do a real contest with a real giveway but 1) I don’t have any great prizes and 2) I’d probably have to come up with all sorts of rules and disclaimers and legalese.  I’m too impatient for all that.  I’ll work on that for the next round of Name This Drink.  With summer on the way, I’m sure I’ll be concocting all kinds of fruity, summery refreshment so there’s bound to be another round soon.

• Malibu Coconut Rum
• White Rum (optional, depends on how much of a kick you want)
• Club Soda
• Simple Syrup (or sugar)
• Strawberries
• Lime Wedge

Slice a couple of strawberries.Put them in a tallish glass and add a little simple syrup.Muddle it all together until the berries are pureed.Fill the glass with ice.Add a shot of Malibu and, if you want, a shot of Bacardi.Fill the glass with club soda and squeeze in a lime wedge.Garnish with a strawberry.Problem solved!  A new drink that hit the spot.

We also created a Kids Version by substituting Cream of Coconut for the Malibu.  It wasn’t quite the same flavor but still tasty.
