It’s been a long week away but family always comes first and this week proved it. Although I’ve missed cooking and blogging, sleeping, my husband and a good bit of the rest of my usual life, I’m very glad I could be there for those who needed me.
The week wasn’t without it’s up side though. I’ve been asking my mother about my grandmother’s recipe collection for a while now and she finally remembered to bring it to me.
I can’t wait to dive into this collection! Reading the recipes, scrawled in my grandmother’s handwriting and with her comments and notes, takes me right back to her kitchen. The church cookbook, with recipes contributed by so many of the ladies who doted on me when I was just a wee little thing, brings back a whole other flood of sweet memories. Now I hope to share some of those with you as I cook my way through the collection.

Yeaaa!! I’m looking forward to more recipes and lovely photos!
I so love old cookbooks! It’s so cool when you there are handwritten notes in them too. Can’t wait to see what treasures you find.
I’ve had a quick look through the church cookbook and there seems to be a need for an inordinate amount of “cream of” soups…chicken, mushroom, celery. And no small amount of Jello:)
I did score a huge hit from my grandmother’s recipe box when I made her Peanut Butter Ice Cream sauce last night. Recipe and photos coming soon!
And thanks, Mary. Some of the family stuff has settled down and some just won’t. That’s ok. I’m glad to be of use.
